Oscar obtained a degree in mining and metallurgy engineering from the School of Mines of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Medellín. He completed a master's degree in environmental impact assessment and a PhD in metallurgy and materials at the Universidad de Oviedo, Spain. He did a post-doctoral stay at the I+D laboratory in the Nubiola Company laboratory in Barcelona, Spain, where he also served as director of research and development. He is a professor in the Department of Materials and Minerals of the School of  Mines of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He is the director of the Ignea Observatory,  a member of the Institute of Minerals – CIMEX, where he participates in research projects and is in charge of extractive metallurgy: physical-chemical processes associated with the metallurgical industry and coordinator of the Sustainability in Extractive Industries group. It is part of the Cement and Construction Materials Group CEMATCO. Oscar is the author of numerous scientific and academic articles in extractive metallurgy, sustainability in mining and ceramic materials published in high-impact international journals, and director of research projects developed with national and international funding.
